Ella and I collected some “treasures” like twigs, stones, sticks and bark. We then needed to find something to do with these things, so we decided to make a forest!
Firstly, we made some salt dough:
2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt and some water
………..We kneaded and rolled the dough
We Added some twigs, stones etc.
We collected some forest animals (Lego, Duplo and surprise egg figures) and added them to our forest!
Maybe you want to make your own forests!
Kids are fascinated to see how a simple piece of paper turns into something they can play with, such as a plane.
Here are step by step instructions on how to make a plane.
All you need is a sheet of A4 copy paper.
Your child can either colour it first or colour and decorate it after it’s folded. On a nice day, you could fly your plane outside, otherwise provide a room or corner indoors where you can fly it. The great thing about this paper toy is that you can always make new ones in different sizes anytime. In fact you could also try using old newspapers or magazines.
Just in case boredom strikes, have a family plane competition – see which plane flies far and straight. Have a great time together!
Here’s a video with a song that you could sing along:
The Airplane Song (Barney)
(Chorus)
Oh, we are flying in an airplane,
Looking out the window,
Watching the clouds go by.
Flying in an airplane,
Looking out the window,
Up so very high.
Looking out the window,
We can see the wings.
Down below we see other things.
Like little tiny buildings
And cars so small,
It makes me feel
Like I’m really tall.
(Chorus)
More planes to come….
Hello parents and welcome to Friday’s newsletter, today I’ve got a very open and creative yoga game for the little ones. It is called yogi story, and there is no right or wrong way to do this game. Let’s begin!
- Have a set of pictures of the poses nearby for reference
- You choose the first picture pose that the child starts with, for example, tree pose
- The child then starts their story with tree pose
- Every time the story mentions an animal or an object, the child should go into the pose they think best represents this.
- *be open here, let go of the idea of the “right” name of the pose, the child’s imagination is the most important here
- You could either have the little ones think of a story before the exercise, or
- let them be spontaneous! Creating their story as they go.
Benefits!
Great game for encouraging the use of imagination, which is so vital for the little ones. It encourages creativity, even for us, so parents have a go yourselves! If you like, the aunties would love to hear the stories and see photos, so don’t be shy. We love seeing the kids in yogi action!
Keep calm & play on…
